A 27-ton Hyundai Xcient truck will be put into service in Magdeburg, Germany, by the logistics service provider, Dachser. A primary goal is to use the zero-emission truck for regional distribution and nightly service to Berlin. Midway through 2023, Dachser plans to begin delivering to Hamburg's city center with a 19-ton hydrogen fuel-cell truck, the Enginius Bluepower.
Dachser is testing zero-emission drive technology for trucks. It plans to put two hydrogen fuel-cell (FCEV) trucks into service in Germany in 2023.
Early in 2023, Dachser plans to begin using a Hyundai Xcient hydrogen fuel-cell truck in Magdeburg, Germany. With a total weight capacity of 27 metric tons, the vehicle can be used in two-shift operations, as it has a range of 400 kilometers. Professional truck drivers who have completed their education at Dachser will operate the rig. By day, it'll be used for regional distribution in the Magdeburg region; by night, it'll be used in system traffic to get to the Dachser branch in Berlin-Schönefeld. The zero-emission vehicle will be fitted with a tandem swap-body trailer for nighttime operations. By the time the truck gets there, there will be hydrogen refueling stations near the Magdeburg and Berlin branches of Dachser.
Dachser's contractual partner in this project is H2 Delivery Truck Pool GmbH & Co. KG in Magdeburg, Germany. At the end of 2021, the Hyundai Xcient FCEV truck will tour eleven German cities as part of a roadshow featuring hydrogen-powered commercial vehicle logistics presented by H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH.
Bremen-based Enginius—a Faun Group subsidiary—will use a Bluepower 1938 FCEV truck for deliveries in Hamburg's downtown starting in mid-2023. An emissions-free delivery truck will be part of the DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery concept, which will be launched in Hamburg by the fall of 2022. The fixed box trailer of the Bluepower 1938 can accommodate up to 18 pallets of cargo and has a permissible total weight of 19 metric tons. Because of its large carrying capacity and high recuperation potential, its estimated range of 250 kilometers plus reserve makes it an excellent choice for deliveries to city centers. HafenCity's hydrogen filling station will be used for refueling.
We've already determined that Dachser's European groupage network has significant potential for hydrogen trucks as part of a study with Kempten University of Applied Sciences, explains Stefan Hohm, Dachser Chief Development Officer (CDO) and member of the Executive Board. So, the Dachser network is very excited for the first hydrogen trucks to join the network to learn a lot about how to use them.
Transport logistics, warehousing, and customized services are all offered by Dachser, a family-owned business based in Kempten, Germany. Inland waterways, pipelines, trucks, trains, and pipelines are ways H2 Green Power & Logistics GmbH distributes green hydrogen. Vehicle manufacturer Faun Group employs more than 2,000 people around the world. Since it is one of Europe's leading suppliers of waste collection vehicles, sweepers, and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, it has twelve plants in seven countries.
