The BMW Group is leading the charge in the electric vehicle market, committed to an all-electric future. In 2022, the company more than doubled its sales of electric cars, delivering over 215,000 new electric cars worldwide. As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable mobility, BMW is set to launch several exciting new models, including the all-new fully electric BMW i5 Sedan, the BMW i5 Touring, and the BMW iX2 compact SUV.
However, these new models are just the tip of the iceberg. The real game-changer is the launch of the NEW CLASS generation in 2025. The NEW CLASS is a new series of electric models from BMW, with a newly defined IT and software architecture and a new generation of high-performance electric powertrains and batteries. The NEW CLASS launch represents a new standard in electric vehicles and a global production network.
The BMW I Vision Circular and BMW I Vision Dee concept cars give us a glimpse into the circular and digital aspects of the next era of electric cars from BMW. At the IAA Mobility motor show in Munich this autumn, BMW will unveil even more of what is in store from 2025 onwards. According to BMW, the first models to be launched under the NEW CLASS will be a sedan in the 3-series segment and a sporty SUV. However, the German automaker has announced that at least six models will be launched in the first 24 months after 2025.
Production of the NEW CLASS generation of electric cars will start in 2025 at a brand new factory in Debrecen, Hungary, which will only produce NEW CLASS models. From 2026, production will also occur at the factory in Munich and, from 2027, at the San Luis Potosi, Mexico factory. Before the end of the decade, BMW expects that the NEW CLASS models will make up more than half of the company's sales figures.
The concept car BMW I Vision Dee showcases an advanced Head-Up Display across the entire windshield width. However, this innovation will be available for the very first time as "BMW Panoramic Vision" in the NEW CLASS models from 2025. The new Head-Up Display creates a unique base for interaction with and information for all passengers in the car.
The BMW Panoramic Vision displays information relevant to both the driver and passenger with higher light intensity and contrasts on a darkly coated area in the lower part of the windscreen. This creates an extremely sharp image that is always visible across the entire width of the windscreen. At the same time, relevant information about the driving situation is always available in the right place and at the right time. In addition to the BMW Panoramic Vision, further new control and information elements from a new generation of the BMW iDrive infotainment system will be presented in the NEW CLASS.
MINI is also heading towards an all-electric future from the beginning of 2030. The electric core family will include a new 3-door model in the next few years: the MINI Cooper, a new crossover model in the minicar segment: MINI Aceman, and a crossover model in the compact segment: MINI Countryman. The first models will premiere later this year. Furthermore, the next-generation MINI Countryman production will start in 2023 at the BMW Group Plant Leipzig in Germany.
The BMW Group aims to deliver more than 10 million electric cars to customers worldwide by 2030. With the launch of the NEW CLASS and the continued growth of the company's electric offering, this goal is well within reach.
The future is electric, and the BMW Group is leading the way. With its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and technology, the company is set to redefine the driving experience and provide customers with a new standard in electric cars. The launch of the NEW CLASS marks the beginning of a new era for BMW, and the company is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious goals for an electric future.
