Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program) has released its list of highest-ranked safety vehicles in 2022. With 66 new passenger cars put through their paces in 2022, the independent vehicle evaluation organization had its busiest year yet. The fact that Hyundai's IONIQ 6 electric car was voted Best in Class in the Large Family Car category proves the company's dominance in the electrification market.
Following up on its maximum five-star rating from last year, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 has been recognized as one of the safest electric cars on the European market with the Euro NCAP Best in Class 2022 award, according to Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing, Product, and Public Relations for Hyundai Motor Europe. "Hyundai is dedicated to providing the highest degree of safety for all motorists and pioneering mobility solutions for our clients. Having won this award from Euro NCAP, we are further validated as a frontrunner in the mobility sector of the future.
To determine which vehicles are considered Euro NCAP Best in Class, we take an average across four categories: adult safety, child safety, pedestrian safety, and driver aids. The group uses the total as a benchmark for evaluating the vehicles. Best-in-class vehicles have nothing extra that wasn't already standard on the cars in their category. The optional equipment ratings will not be included.
After passing Euro NCAP's safety test last year, the IONIQ 6 took first place in the Large Family Car category. November of 2022 saw the announcement that the newest generation of Hyundai's all-electric IONIQ brand had received the highest possible rating of five stars.
Euro NCAP found the Hyundai IONIQ 6 to have "exceptionally high results" in the Protection of Adults category. It was given a perfect score of 100%, making it the best of its kind. In contrast, the group that rates vehicles gave Hyundai's Electrified Streamliner high marks (87 percent) for its safety features aimed at protecting children. According to the evaluation, "the Hyundai IONIQ 6 offered good protection for all vital body regions for both the 6- and 10-year-old mannequin in front and side testing," earning a perfect score. The vehicle also did exceptionally well in the Driver Support System category, scoring 90%.
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 features the latest generation of Hyundai's Smart Sense suite of driver assistance technologies so that you can drive with complete peace of mind. Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) is one of the systems available, and it helps keep the car in the middle of the lane, at the preset speed, and at a certain distance from the vehicle in front of it on the highway. The IONIQ 6's HDA 2 system allows it to reach Level 2 in autonomous driving, which means it can safely pass vehicles in front of it.
Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), aided by navigation, helps drivers keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front by matching the driver's learned speed to the traffic ahead. The NSCC also makes speed changes and uses the road information from the nav system to ensure the driver's safety while navigating tricky situations like turns and stop signs. In addition, seven airbags, including a center airbag in the driver's seat, are standard on the Hyundai Electrified Streamliner.
