Mercedes-Benz is releasing a limited edition Mercedes-AMG SL 63 covered in F1-inspired paintwork. The Motorsport Collectors Edition is limited to 100 pieces worldwide and includes silver paint faded to black at the back, emulating the look of the Mercedes-AMG W13 E Performance F1 vehicle used in the 2022 F1 season.
Splashes of green on the front fascia, side skirts, rear diffuser, and 21-inch wheels honor Malaysia's national oil corporation Petronas, the Mercedes F1 team's main sponsor. The Mercedes factory team had employed the combination of Mercedes silver and Petronas green since its debut in 2010, except when it switched to black.
The AMG Aerodynamics package, which includes more noticeable front and rear sweeps, a larger rear diffuser, and some underbody changes, is also included. The AMG Night Package and AMG Night Package II, which add dark trim components, are also featured.
The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors features black nappa leather, microfiber upholstery with red or yellow stitching, and a heated steering wheel with carbon fiber trim inside. The special version includes a Burmester sound system, a head-up display, and an AMG Track Pace data logger for racing days.
The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Motorsport Collectors is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that generates 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque and sends it to all four wheels via a dual-clutch wet-clutch automatic transmission. Mercedes claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 196 miles per hour.
Mercedes has recently seen a lot of success in Formula One, but the Motorsport Collectors Edition comes at a bad moment for the team. In 2022, the first year of substantial rule revisions that reset car design, Mercedes fell well behind Red Bull Racing.
