What more might you need? Cute guys, fabulous leading ladies, and crazy costumes. Everything is in Romeo and Juliet. There's nothing terrible about it: first loves, nail-biting suspense, guys in tights, etc. (except, of course, the tragic ending). A version of a classic Shakespeare play was in theaters decades ago. Two of our favorite actors in Young Hollywood are in the new version, which makes it even better.
We showed off the incredibly romantic and heartbreaking movie poster that seems like ages ago, and now the movie has finally come out. There are a million reasons why you should see the film this weekend (think of how happy your lit teacher will be! ), but this is why we're so excited (and why you should be, too!).
Hailee Steinfeld is the best. Period. We're not just saying this because she's on the cover of our October issue. Even though she is young, this girl is a great actress and has been nominated for an Academy Award to prove it. She told us in the issue, "I wanted Juliet to be more than just a damsel in distress." You can be sure that she did.
How much more dreamy could Douglas Booth be? Nope. Maybe you remember him from the movie LOL, which Miley Cyrus was in before she quit acting for good (except for her A+ performance on Saturday Night Live). Like the pop singer, Douglas has changed dramatically since the movie came out. Not just any young actor on the rise can get the part of Romeo, but being a Burberry model who knows how to smolder doesn't hurt.
Finally, Ed Westwick is back! Since Gossip Girl ended, we have not seen this British dreamboat on TV. Like you, we're still getting used to life without Chuck Bass. But this time, he'll be able to use his charming English accent, which is an excellent reason to see the movie.
The clothes from the Renaissance are beautiful. Costume designer Carlo Poggioli said that at least 1,000 very fancy costumes were made for the movie. We're sure they're accurate since the producer, screenwriter, and brains behind the film are Julian Fellowes, who is best known for making Downton Abbey, everyone's favorite (and maybe only) Edwardian-era soap.
It's just the most well-known love story ever. This is the first time in years that Romeo and Juliet have been made into a movie, so you can't miss it. Can you believe it's been that long since Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes were in Baz Luhrmann's modern-day version with pop culture references?
