Opel is already commemorating the 160th anniversary of its inception and the 30th anniversary of its Eisenach facility in Thuringia in 2022. Simultaneously, one of the German manufacturer's most successful automobiles, the Opel Corsa, became 40 years old, with millions of units sold. Opel can now brag on another major accomplishment: the Lightning brand has produced 75 million vehicles. An electrified, locally emission-free Opel Grandland GSe Jubilee - an Opel built in Eisenach - went off the production line today, representing 75 million Opel automobiles.

Opel recently stated that the GSe emblem would be reintroduced as a new trademark for its dynamic and electrified cars; thus, the abbreviation now stands for G rand S port and electric. The new Opel Grandland GSe follows in the footsteps of the Opel Astra GSe and Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe. It is a high-performance plug-in hybrid car with electric all-wheel drive and a true innovator in the small SUV sector.
The Opel Grandland GSe is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors, one on each axle, for a total system output of 221 kW / 300 horsepower. The Opel Grandland GSe is a powerful sports SUV with electric all-wheel drive for optimal traction and a top-of-the-line standing start, thanks to the plug-in hybrid powertrain. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 235 km/h (135 km/h in entirely electric mode).
As with the Opel Astra GSe, the Opel Grandland GSe's particularly dynamic character and great driving fun are due to the specific tuning of the steering and suspension, with stiffer springs and shock absorbers equipped with KONI FSD, which allows for different cushioning characteristics that guarantee agility and maximum comfort. The new Opel Grandland GSe displays the company's ability to introduce groundbreaking technologies to the compact market while balancing driving enjoyment and responsibility.
Opel has released numerous renowned and very successful cars throughout more than 120 years of automotive production, totaling 75 million units.
The millionth Opel was created in 1940, an Opel Kapitän with a self-supporting body and independent front suspension, an architecture that at the time offered improved driving performance and reduced fuel consumption due to its lightweight. The two millionth car with the lightning bolt insignia, likewise an Opel Kapitän, appeared in 1956. But there was a first: Opel was the first German manufacturer to reach such high production levels at the time. As a result, the firm decided to turn the "Jubilee" car into a one-of-a-kind vehicle: as the brand's outstanding flagship, the cream-colored Opel had all of its chromed elements coated in 24-karat gold.
In the years that followed, the "millions" grew quicker and faster. The increased pace of production reflected not only the rapid spread of motorization - the democratization of mobility - but also the increased modernity and efficiency of the systems. Only 15 years later, in 1971, the ten millionth Opel rolled off the Rüsselsheim assembly line: an Opel Rekord C Caravan. A triumph that was widely celebrated. The presidents of the federal states in which Opel possessed plants at the time: Hesse (Rüsselsheim), North Rhine Westphalia (Bochum), and Rhineland Palatinate, were each offered an Opel from daily production of the "car number ten million" (Kaiserslautern).
A silver-colored Opel Senator CD was the 20 millionth Opel to leave the Rüsselsheim manufacturing factory in 1983. During the same decade, the Opel headquarters facility built the 25 millionth Opel - an Opel Omega A Caravan. From the mid-1980s until the early 2000s, the Opel Omega A was the brand's flagship model, while the little Opel Corsa and the Opel Astra, which replaced the Opel Kadett, both sold millions of units in the compact class. Between 1991 and 1997, about 4.13 million Opel Astra Fs were produced after German reunification. This makes it Opel's best-selling vehicle to date. Opel Omega received the honor of being the 50 millionth Opel. It rolled out of the factory in December 1999 in the silver sedan variant of the then-new generation B.
