Peugeot already meets the new EU car safety regulations

Peugeot 308

A new EU law for automakers entered into effect on July 6, 2022: To improve driver safety, all new models will be required to feature eight specialized support systems, including a sleepiness warning system and an emergency brake assistant. No vehicle can be registered after 2024 unless it has the required equipment. The new Peugeot 308, which will come out very soon and has cutting-edge technology to help drivers, meets EU rules.

Peugeot Germany CEO, Haico van der Luyt says: "Safety is a top priority for us." The driver assistance technologies are constantly being updated and refined by our research and development teams. So, it shouldn't be surprising that all our new models meet EU rules and have the most up-to-date systems.

The Peugeot models' standard Active Safety Brake (automatic emergency braking) provides practical driving assistance. If the car travels too fast toward an obstacle and the driver does not apply the brakes, the system will do it automatically. The emergency brake light comes on whenever there's a chance of an accident. At less than 30 kilometers per hour, the car is brought to a complete stop. When the speed exceeds 30 kilometers per hour, the system begins to slow the vehicle down automatically, but the driver maintains full control over the brakes. The emergency brake helper can detect moving vehicles between 5 and 140 kilometers per hour, stationary cars between 5 and 80 kilometers per hour, and pedestrians between 5 and 60 kilometers per hour (depending on the version). The system also includes a warning that emits an audible signal during a frontal collision. Whenever Blind Spot Assist detects a potential threat, an LED indicator lights up in the next side mirror. When going between 12 and 140 km/h, the blind spot assistant will let the driver know if another car enters the zone where visibility is poor.

In the center of the front bumper of the Peugeot 308 and all other current Peugeot models is a radar with a range of 150 meters. When paired with the EAT8/e-EAT8 eight-speed automatic transmission, the ACC automated cruise control with STOP & GO function allows drivers to select their speed and distance from the car in front of them at speeds between 30 km/h and 180 km/h. The engine brake and braking system slow your car down to match the car's pace in front of you. After three seconds, it begins functioning normally again without your intervention.

The new Peugeot 308 employs a camera to detect lane lines and issue audible and visual alerts to keep drivers in their lanes. At highway speeds between 65 and 180 kilometers per hour, the system takes over and keeps the car in the appropriate lane with minimal driver input. Holding the steering wheel firmly allows the driver to maintain the desired course, such as when avoiding an impending danger. Turning on the turn signal causes the system to temporarily halt its lane-correcting. The lane departure warning system also affects the car's steering, which helps the driver stay in the lane they want to be in.

The driver's attention is detected by the drowsiness warning based on steering behavior and the length of the journey: When traveling at speeds greater than 65 km/h for extended periods, the system begins to evaluate the driver's every steering wheel motion. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with a camera on the windshield that can identify when the driver strays outside the designated driving lanes. Drivers are given audible and visible warnings to keep them safer on the road.

When reversing, the Rear Cross Traffic Alert sounds an alarm if it detects an object in the vehicle's blind spot or in the path of the vehicle's rear bumper. The bumper's built-in radar can see nearby cars, people, and bikes. The touchscreen displays a warning, and a sound also alerts the user to the impediment. A new high-definition 180° reversing camera with an integrated cleaning nozzle can help you when you need to back up.

Providing brief details for an emergency call after an accident might be challenging. Peugeot E-Call+ immediately notifies emergency personnel of the vehicle's exact location, the number of passengers, and the direction the car travels within its lane. Peugeot Assistance offers help during a breakdown or malfunction and provides fast and effective assistance via automatic emergency calls. The MyPeugeot app connects users with Peugeot Assistance 24/7, allowing users to track the whereabouts of a towing service.
