The BMW X1 is the brand’s best-selling compact crossover, offering a blend of style, space, and driving fun. But for those who want more power and performance, a new option is the BMW X1 M35i xDrive. This is the first M Performance model of the X1, and it packs a lot of punch for a small SUV.
How powerful is it?
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that has been tuned to deliver 306 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. That’s a significant increase from the 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque of the base X1 xDrive28i. The engine also features TwinPower Turbo technology, a high-precision injection system, and a Valvetronic fully variable valve control.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission that offers fast and smooth shifts and paddle shifters on the steering wheel for manual control. The transmission also has a Launch Control function that optimizes acceleration from a standstill.
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive also benefits from an intelligent all-wheel drive system that distributes power between the front and rear wheels according to the driving situation. The system can send up to 100% of the torque to the rear axle when needed, enhancing traction and stability. The system also works with a mechanical limited-slip differential on the front axle, which improves grip and handling on slippery or twisty roads.
According to BMW, the BMW X1 M35i xDrive can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds, which is a full second quicker than the base X1 xDrive28i. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.
How does it look?
The BMW X1 M35i xDrive stands out from the rest of the X1 lineup with its distinctive M Performance design elements. These include:
- A larger kidney grille with a Cerium Grey surround
