The iconic British brand MINI has always been known for its fun, agile, and stylish cars. But now, the company is taking a bold step into the future with its new family of all-electric models. The new MINI Cooper Electric, the new MINI Cooper SE, and the new MINI Cooper E are the first to feature the brand's distinctive sound worlds, digital displays, and circular design elements. They also offer a range of benefits for urban mobility, such as zero emissions, lower running costs, and access to restricted zones.
The All-Electric MINI Cooper: The Reinvention of the Original
Going into its fifth model generation, the MINI Cooper 3-door still embodies the brand's core. As an all-electric vehicle, the new MINI is available in the Cooper E variant and as the Cooper SE, featuring higher output and range. "Cooper" refers to both a model name and a performance level within the new MINI family.
The new MINI Cooper Electric is powered by a 135 kW (184 hp) electric motor that delivers a maximum torque of 270 Nm (199 lb-ft). It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph). The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 32.6 kWh and enables a range of 203 to 234 km (126 to 145 miles), according to the WLTP cycle. The battery can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 35 minutes using a DC fast charger or in 2.5 hours using an AC wallbox.
The new MINI Cooper SE is the sportier version of the all-electric MINI. It has a more powerful electric motor that produces 150 kW (204 hp) and a higher torque of 310 Nm (229 lb-ft). It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). The battery capacity is slightly larger at 38.5 kWh and allows a range of 217 to 248 km (135 to 154 miles), according to the WLTP cycle. The charging times are similar to those of the Cooper Electric.
Both models come with a standard two-zone automatic climate control system, LED headlights and taillights, digital instrument cluster, central touchscreen display, navigation system, wireless charging, and Apple CarPlay compatibility. They also offer three driving modes: Sport, Mid, and Green, which adjust the steering, acceleration, and regenerative braking characteristics. In addition, they feature an adaptive suspension system that optimizes the ride comfort and handling.
