Dacia manager criticises weight of electric cars

Dacia Spring

In the future, Dacia, a brand that is easy on the wallet, will emphasize how well it works. One way this will be accomplished is by lowering the average weight of the available vehicles. The Renault subsidiary is working to stop electric cars from getting heavier and heavier.

Xavier Martinet, vice president of sales, marketing, and operations at Dacia, emphasized that the brand is focused on reducing the weight of its vehicles, specifically by only selling them with what it considers to be "essential" components and accessories. In an interview with Autocar, he said, "Excess weight shouldn't be acceptable if we're serious about collectively reducing emissions."

Xavier Martinet was talking about the electric car made by Dacia called the Dacia Spring, which was released in 2021 and weighed 975 kilograms. This electric vehicle travels an average of 40 kilometers per day while being driven at an average speed of 29 kilometers per hour. There is no requirement for either a robust motor or a cumbersome battery.

Xavier Martinet said, "It doesn't make sense," in reference to the larger electric cars, particularly SUVs, that are being introduced by competitors. It is insane to permit people to construct two- or three-ton vehicles driven by a single person and travel a maximum of 35 miles per day.

When asked if Dacia could make a car like the Citroen Ami, which is a two-seater, speed-limited city car, Martinet said there would only be a few answers to the question of how to solve the mobility problem in the next 20 years. Everyone must bring something unique to the table because "if we try to be like each other, all we end up being is bad copies."

Companies must articulate their core values and what they stand for. The manager said, "I think the strength that Dacia currently possesses is its clear position."

As a result, Dacia will proceed to provide customers with automobiles that are as reasonably priced, practical, and dependable as is humanly possible. The electric drive is not a top priority now because more pressing matters must be addressed.

A hybrid version of the Dacia Jogger, the company's compact van, was just released. The manufacturer has yet to make any definite plans to produce another full-powered model in addition to the Dacia Spring.
